Osteoarthritis is a scary sounding condition, but is actually just an age-related change.
As we age, our joints become less lubricated, reducing the cartilage that helps to absorb forces and frictions when we move. This can mean that excessive forces and stress can irritate the joint resulting in pain and stiffness, which can develop.
Only when Osteoarthritis progresses does it become problematic, potentially causing you pain or stiffness.
The role of physiotherapy is to lessen your pain, improve your range of movement, and improve your ability to withstand forces, therefore reducing any further osteoarthritis related symptoms, and reducing your risk of deterioration.
Myth buster: Osteoarthritis is an age-related change that will happen in most people, to some extent. Having Osteoarthritis does not mean you will experience ANY symptoms or pain. In some cases, it may cause you pain, but this pain can be fully reversed. In other cases, it may have sadly developed to such an extent that additional interventions are required such as supports, injections or surgery.

When I approached Worcester Physiotherapy Clinic I had pulled my hamstring on a 10K and I was feeling sorry for myself. Chloe immediately identified the severity of my problem, designed some exercises to help my recovery and measured my improvement over the recovery period. What was brilliant for me as an older runner is she assessed the state of my overall leg strength and advised me of exercises to keep me injury free as I return to running. If you are an older runner or getting back into running I would recommend you book an appointment and whether you have an injury or not I would use Worcester Physiotherapy Clinic to help you stay injury free and enjoy your running.

Ryan has been amazing throughout the whole process of getting me back to running.

He got me round my first marathon which when I first went to see him I didn’t think was going to happen.

I made an appointment to see Ryan following a delibitating skiing injury and have received a long an intensive programme of rehabilitation focusing on my desire to return to running (and skiing) again, which at times was something I never though would be possible.
I have seen many different physios during my sporting career, but Ryans approach to rehab "clicked" for me as it was based on demonstrating measurable improvements; his support and reassurance was invaluable and helped to keep me positive when I was feeling low and frustrated.
Whilst it has taken a long time to recover, his treatment has enabled me to avoid surgery and I am now running again and will be skiing this season.

I came to Worcester Physiotherapy Clinic after experiencing severe knee pain within the first few minutes of running. After a few sessions with Chloe, and following her advice, my knee pain when running has completely gone and I’m back to my normal weekly mileage. My legs are stronger and I have learned to incorporate gym work into my weekly training. Thanks a lot Chloe!
